In decades past a typical American family consisted of a first-time married couple with 2-3 children and a dog (or cat). However, one statistic that hasn't changed much over the past decade is the number of families owning pets. According to the 2012 U.S. Pet Ownership & Demographics Sourcebook, 36.5% of households have at least one dog and 30.4% of households have a cat (or two). Out of those households, over 60% consider their pets to be family members. With over 70 million pet dogs and 74 million pet cats in the U.S., this is a great area to target your marketing. That's why pet promotional items are great ways to get to their humans, who eventually will spend money with your business.
