14 Oct Are You Targeting Your Past Customers?
Most businesses who have been in business for a few years are sitting on a gold mine and they don’t even know it. That gold mine is your previous customer base. For example, one of my big sellers is full color business cards. So when we have a big sale on business cards, one of my first steps would be to contact my previous clients first. After all, I know for a fact that they use these items and would be likely to take advantage of the current promotion. So rather than posting a sale and sitting back and waiting for customers to come to you, you should be proactive. You should keep a detailed record of past clients including the type of company they are and what they bought so you can single them out to email or call them periodically when something of interest might be a good fit for them. Now, please don’t take this advice mistakenly and stop any efforts for attracting new clients. Both are equally important for growth in any business model.
Other ideas to market would be postcard mailings which are cheap and easy. For most mailings, we can do the addressing, sorting and mailing for the same price it would cost you for the postage, so why waste your time printing labels and stamping post cards. On the postcards, advertising some kind of insane deal and then try to upsell your clients to better or more appropriate packages for them.
Including promotional products in a mailing is a great way to grab the attention of the recipients. Here again, if you target your past clients and mail them something that will be useful to them along with some kind of special offer, you will likely hear back from them. Doing this will require you to have several different products for your clients so that what you send will actually be useful for the industry they represent.
Targeting your past clients will bring in lots of extra sales and it is one of the most effective types of marketing you can do since those clients already trust you. Try it today and watch the returns on your investment soar.
