Top 5 Classic Spirit Items for Football Season

Spirit items are a vital part of all football games. Never will you go to a football game and NOT see any school spirit items around the stadium. These fun inexpensive products help keep the crowd cheering, yelling, screaming, and supporting their team. You will see typically “shy” people who are yelling and screaming when they are hiding behind a pom pom or behind a pair of thunder sticks. It’s like they are hiding behind the spirit items, which helps the shy fans come ALIVE!

Over the years, there have definitely been quite a few new spirit items introduced; however, there are several classic items that will likely never die. Below is a list of those classic spirit items.

Top 5 Spirit Items for Football Season

  1. Mini Footballs – There is no denying that fans love to catch mini footballs thrown by the cheerleaders. Or do they just like interacting with the cheerleaders?
  2. Pom Poms – The crowd loves to shake their pom poms and cheer for their team with each great play and score! It’s cool to see a big stadium full of cheering pom poms.
  3. Stadium Seat Cushions – Fans love to keep their back-end off of cold bleachers. I’m not sure what it says when they want to put their butt on their team mascot, but it must be all about comfort.
  4. Thunder Sticks – There is no noise like the deafening boom of thundersticks when being used by hundreds or thousands of fans. These are a relatively new spirit items, but have quickly become a fan favorite.
  5. Foam Fingers – Waving an oversized foam finger when cheering is a great spirit items and they are fun. Foam fingers come in a many different sizes, shapes, and colors.

Now there are many more spirit items that have been around for years, but these are the five most common items that are used at football games. And my guess is that you will continue to see these spirit items for years to come.

Week 1 of College Football 2011

Week 1 of college football proved to be an interesting one with a few upsets, as expected. #14 TCU fell to Baylor 50-48 and South Florida upset #16 Notre Dane 23-20. While I really wouldn’t call it an upset, but #4 LSU took down #3 Oregon. Those SEC teams are tough as usual and the conference is very strong this year with 6 teams still in the AP Top 25 after the first full week of football. My Mississippi State Bulldogs look promising routing Memphis 59-14 and are now ranked #16.

With Tropical Storm Lee coming through the Southeast this weekend, Saturday was a great day to kick back and watch some College football games. While watching, I saw many different spirit items including thundersticks and mini footballs.

These school spirit items are not only great for college teams, but also for high school and middle school football teams. They make great fundraisers to help raise money for new uniforms, equipment, and field maintenance.

Middle Finger Etiquette

Custom printed foam middle fingersWhen is the middle finger acceptable to use in your business practice?  My first response would be never.  My second response would also be never.  Although we have sold foam middle fingers to a few businesses for some marketing campaigns, they were rare cases.  I wouldn’t recommend flashing these fingers at potential customer on the roadside or accosting walk-in customers with the finger.  You could, of course, come up with some sort of clever marketing scheme with them but be careful and don’t offend the masses.  I’m all about offending a few to gain the attention of the mass as long as there is no hate marketing or discrimination going on.  These foam fingers are mostly used for protest rallies and sporting events.  They are meant to be intimidating for the other team, but I would encourage you to use these sparingly and be light-hearted if you get a foam middle finger flashed at you at a football game.  You know football can get intense, especially here in the Southeastern Conference, so don’t get too offended.  It’s not personal, just sports.  To you sports rivals out there…until we meet again!
